Intelligent Switch and Control
The vast majority of human interaction with electronic circuitry takes place through pressing or otherwise manipulating some form of electronic contact or switch. MARLEX Engineering Inc. has developed several unique Intelligent Switch applications that can improve the way we currently interact with the electronic world.
Intelligent Turn Signal Switch
MARLEX Engineering Inc. has designed an intelligent Turn Signal Switch for use in the trucking industry. The control system inside the switch senses the driver’s manipulation of the switch to control turn signal and hazard indicators on the vehicle. The system continually monitors the state of the vehicle via CAN, SAE J1939 and/or J1708/1587 communications bus and dynamically adjusts the turn and hazard signals according to the vehicle speed and steering wheel position.
Capacitive Touch-Switch
Capacitive touch-sensing technology enables the production of rugged, sealed, human-machine interfaces with no moving parts. MARLEX Engineering Inc. has designed and implemented capacitive touch-switch solutions for both automotive and industrial environments. Our touch-switch solutions include:
- Switches for trailer dome lamp control
- Panel interfaces for mobile test equipment
- Self-powered intelligent wall switches
Graphical Display Switch Solutions
Graphical push-button switches combine a back-lit LCD matrix display with a pushbutton switch into a single device. Pressing the surface of the display activates the contacts of the switch. Graphical push-button switches offer a number of advantages to a design:
- They can be used to display context sensitive information.
- They can provide guidance on how and when the user should interact with the switch.
- Different types of information can be multiplexed on the same display.
- Combining the switch and display reduces space in the overall design.
- Only a single access hole must be made in a panel or enclosure for each switch/LCD combination.
- They give your product a modern and innovative look and feel.
We have developed embedded firmware to interface with the NKK® Switches SmartSwitch™ and we can incorporate these and other makes of graphical display switches into your product in such a way as to maximize the functionality that each switch provides to your application.
