RFID Based Obstacle Detection and Safety System

The SCAN~LINK Armour System is a personnel detection and alert system suitable for use in environments where there is a risk of injury to personel working along side mobile heavy equipment. Its application is ideal for use in the construction industry where existing equipment can easily be retrofitted with SCAN~LINK Armour components.

Ground workers and other personel wearing an Armour equipped Safety Vest and Hard Hat will be detected via the RFID tags discretely installed in the apparel. The Armour System will then alert the driver of a reversing vehicle* that a ground worker is behind them and extra caution is required.

Trailer Tester for testing and diagnosing electrical faults in commercial truck trailer wiring and lighting systems

Trailer Tester

The Trailer Tester is an extremely rugged, durable and valuable tool for testing the wiring and lighting systems on commercial truck trailers to help find and eliminate any electrical circuit problems. It is designed for use in facilities that manufacture, refurbish or test trailers. The trailer is simply plugged into the tester and then using either a convenient wireless remote or the front panel buttons the operator can switch power to any combination of the six individual circuits in the trailer:

  1. Clearance, Sidemarker and I.D.
  2. Left-Turn Signal and Hazard
  3. Right-Turn Signal and Hazard
  4. Tail Lamps, Marker Lamps and License Plate Illumination
  5. Stop-Lamp and ABS
  6. Continuous Power

Easy to read LED displays aid with testing/troubleshooting by showing the current drawn by the circuit as well as open and short-circuit faults.

The Trailer Tester is available through ProQuip International under the name RT300 Remote Tester.

Presence-Sensing Step

The MARLEX ultrasonic obstacle detection technology has proven itself in the harshest of automotive environments. This same technology has been adapted to other applications for automatically enabling or disabling (lock-out) of equipment when the presence of an object or person is detected. MARLEX Engineering Inc. has developed several versions of single and dual presence-sensing steps that are currently employed to disable the packer forward motion on side loading garbage trucks (view the specifications for our PSS-24 Presence-Sensing Step[PDF]). We are continuously customizing our technology for use in new and unique applications.

C-Back™ Control Unit and SensorC-Back™ Control Unit and Sensor

C-Back™

C-Back™ is an intelligent back-up system for the Light Duty and Passenger Vehicle market. This patented, ultrasonic-based technology alerts the driver to objects in the path of the vehicle both before and during reversing.

In an independent evaluation the Grote Obstacle Detection System was rated “Best Buy” by Consumer Reports magazine, and was also named as one of the best 50 products of 2003 by Heavy Duty Trucking Magazine.

Electronic Valve

Our in-house R&D efforts have led to the successful development of a patented low-power piezo-electronic controller. Our technology is ideal for use in power critical applications where low cost and high reliability are of primary concern.

Together with the mechanical design team from Veltri Technologies we have integrated our controller into an innovative Electronic Valve Positioner. Targeted for use in the chemical processing industry, our initial product offering is a self-powered 4-20mA current loop controlled version of this positioner. HART programmable derivatives of this technology are currently being developed.

Short-Range RF Solutions

Including the capability of wireless remote control to a product can greatly improve its versatility and market appeal. MARLEX has experience in designing low-power, short-range handheld wireless controllers and the receiver circuitry on the equipment being controlled. We can engineer a solution using a single activating button or many buttons to control multiple features. Your remote control device can be housed in a rugged dirt and moisture resistant case. No ON/OFF switch is required because our designs consume only a tiny amount of power when the buttons are not being activated. Depending on your requirements, each remote can be encoded to control only one device, or many remotes can control the same device.

MARLEX Engineering Inc. has integrated RF technology for short range bi-directional data transfer in its C-Back™ technology to allow for its use in tractor-trailer information monitoring and data transfer. This technology can be expanded to other areas, including remote Ultraviolet Light sensing and remote equipment operation alarms and data reporting.

LED Replacement for Fluorescent Tube

MARLEX has developed a drop-in LED lamp module to replace fluorescent tubes. This breakthrough patent pending technology can be used in both specialty and general lighting applications. The F32T8 Tube LED Replacement Module utilizes the existing size, shape and connections of a standard four foot F32T8 fluorescent tube and can be operated either directly from the mains supply or by the ballast that is currently in the fixture. This allows for a simple retrofit of existing F32T8 lighting installations without the need to rewire the fixture. Our LED tube-replacement technology provides the advantages of:

  • Increased lamp life
  • Wireless RF based ON/OFF and dimming control
  • Energy Savings through occupancy management and daylight harvesting applications
  • Environmentally friendly alternative to mercury-based fluorescent lighting
  • Shatter resistant lamp design
  • Lower total cost of ownership

The MARLEX design team is currently adapting our LED lamp drive technology to other applications, including HID Lamp replacement.
